Trade Concessions to be Offered, as Government Extends Rice Import Restrictions

The government plans to offer trade concessions for several products in exchange for the extension of the quantitative restriction (QR) on rice for three more years.  The QR is meant to protect the livelihood of rice farmers while they are strengthening their production capability. Acknowledging that deliberations in Congress would take time, concessions will be made to members of the World Trade Organization.
