Pernia Says Country Needs to Import Rice

Socioeconomic Planning Secretary Ernesto Pernia said that the country needs to import rice to ensure adequate supply and stable prices in the coming months. This comes despite repeated objections of Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel Pinol, who is against any importation due to what he said is an expected bumper harvest resulting from new rice varieties.
